It’s hard to not to feel the film Easy Rider doesn’t directly draw influence from the song “Born to be Wild” when considering the lyric “Fire all your guns at once, and explode into space” is directly tied to the ending where Billy and Wyatt are killed and Wyatt is literally exploded into space. They both helped turn the film into a cult classic and defined the trademarks of the film: freedom, rebellion, youth, drug culture, the hippie movement, a biker classic, stunning long shots of setting and much more. These men simply don’t conform to men’s society and a final example is the scene in the diner which inevitably results in George’s death.ĭennis Hopper made a great decision to include two songs from Steppenwolf in the film Easy Rider. As soon as the men get their hands on the money they have long lusted after, a riveting air guitar from Michael Monarch kicks in full swing and the mood for Easy Rider is set within the first five minutes of the film. The opening scene of the film starts with Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) conducting a cocaine deal to secure money for their road trip across the country.
